RIDE -RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Commissioner’s Memo to Friends of Education

Closing the Year Strong!

We are in the midst of graduation season, and I would like to start off by congratulating all of our Rhode Island students who are moving on to the next chapter of their lives.

Whether it be entering kindergarten, college or career, I have no doubt that they will go far and succeed in all of their endeavors.

And a big congratulations to the educators and families behind these wonderful students, as you have been their biggest supporters through their academic and personal journeys!

Speaking of continuing education, recently, Providence teachers voted to ratify a contract that will extend the school day for Providence Public Schools students by 30 minutes to make up for the significant learning loss due to the pandemic.

Providence educators will also get additional professional development opportunities through this agreement. The extended learning time that aims to accelerate learning is in alignment with the recommendations of the Learning, Equity and Accelerated Pathways (LEAP) Task Force.

Finally, I’d like to extend my congratulations to recent MET High School graduate Teodor Janiga, who is the winner of this year’s STEAM Month Logo Contest.

Teodor’s design will be used on our annual November STEAM Month promotional materials.

Great work, Teodor!

In partnership,

Commissioner: Angélica Infante-Green
