Community Response Team Combats ATVs

City of Providence News

Dear Neighbor,

As the summer months approach, we know that we often have seen an increase in ATVs and illegal vehicles in our neighborhoods. They create safety concerns for our youth and noise disturbances in every corner of our city. As Mayor, my top priority is ensuring all who live and visit Providence feel safe.

That’s why Colonel Oscar Perez and I created the Community Response Team, a new unit in the Providence Police Department dedicated to investigating the use of illegal street vehicles that pose safety risks on our streets and our community.

In just one short month, this unit has made great progress removing dozens of bikes and ATvs off our streets. These vehicles are not street-legal and not built for street operations, placing the lives of riders, drivers, and innocent bystanders at risk of harm.

This kind of activity is not tolerated or welcome in Providence.

We need every member of our community to support our efforts to combat ATV activity. You can anonymously report any non-emergency information you have by using our dedicated ATV tip line: 401-680-TATV (8288) or email us at ATVtips@providenceri.gov

If you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation, please call 9-1-1 directly.

Thank you for working with us.

Brett P. Smiley

39th Mayor of Providence
