Providence is Back on Track!
Dear Neighbor,
BRETT SMILEY
This week, I presented my proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. I am proud to say we are refocusing city spending on what you told us matters most: improving quality of life, neighborhood safety, and excellent city services.
In just four short months in office, we have already made incredible progress. In the year ahead, this budget will allow us to continue making the critical quality-of-life investments we need while also preparing us to tackle our biggest challenges and ensure that Providence has a sustainable economic future.
As Mayor, it is my responsibility to create a responsible, balanced budget that also invests in the services we need most. This budget does exactly that. In the year ahead, we have proposed needed investments into cleaning our streets, fixing our sidewalks, removing graffiti, and bolstering public safety so that the city is clean, safe, and welcoming for residents, students, businesses, and visitors.
From the very first week I took office, you, the community, have enthusiastically shown up and engaged with us to help us make the major decisions that will have a lasting impact on our City. You have told us what priorities matter most to you, discussed with my team how the City can best invest in our children’s education opportunities, and you showed up to help us choose Providence’s 39th Chief of Police, Oscar Perez. I am incredibly proud of the budget we proposed because it was our community members who shaped what we invested in with the limited resources we have.
The community spoke up, and we listened. Together we are building a Providence that our residents will be proud to call home by prioritizing the issues that make their lives better.
Sincerely,
BRETT SMILEY
39th Mayor of Providence
