DERBY DAY – LINDEN PLACE – MAY 6TH

Derby Day Party at Linden Place, Saturday, May 6th!

Linden Place Mansion’s Derby Day Event Now Parties into the Night

(BRISTOL, RI) –On Saturday, May 6, the fifth-annual Derby Day Party at Linden Place Mansion will run neck and neck with the celebrations at Churchill Downs. The Bristol landmark is now offering two ways for people to celebrate “the most exciting two minutes in sports.”

Patrons may choose to attend the full event, which includes watching the Derby on the big screen, dinner and a live auction, or they may join the festivities at Derby Night, the after party immediately following with a live band under the big tent.

“We wanted to make this year’s event as inviting to as many attendees as possible,” explains Susan Battle, Linden Place Executive Director. “Since our Derby Day has become something of an East Bay tradition, it’s been sold out in recent years. By adding Derby Night after the dinner, a lot more people will be able to join in on the fun.”

Along with the excitement of viewing a live-stream of the 149th Kentucky Derby with other “spectators,” patrons for the full event will enjoy a spirited cocktail party starting at 5:00 before a sit-down dinner in the ballroom featuring southern-inspired specialties prepared by noted caterer Russell Morin Catering & Events.

Followed by a live auction, the party continues as Derby Night goes from 8:00 through 11:00.

Joined by after party attendees under the big tent, all will enjoy the eight-piece Down City Band, known for their male and female lead vocalists and trademark funky horns.

Complementing the open bar, mint juleps and bourbon tastings, there will be sweet treats to indulge in, as well.

Whether or not attendees will be there for Derby viewing, all will be able to partake in other competitions.

Attendees may bid on products and services at the silent auction.

Prizes will also be awarded for best hat, best-dressed female, best-dressed male and best-dressed couple.

As great as the two-tiered event may be, it will help accomplish a couple of good things.

Funds raised at this year’s Derby Day festivities are earmarked for two important initiatives: restoration of Linden Place’s historically important 243-year-old summer house, which is the centerpiece of its gardens, along with youth educational outreach to promote a greater understanding of the trans-Atlantic slave trade in Rhode Island.

Tickets for the full event are $150 per person (discounted tables of eight and sponsorship opportunities also available).

If you wish to join in later for the Derby Night after party, tickets are $75.
