BID TO REPLACE CICILLINE
ANA B. QUEZADA
Three months ago, if I had been asked would I ever seek higher office, I would have dismissed the idea entirely. Today, after an outpouring of family and friends’ encouragement, I declare my candidacy for Congresswoman for CD1.
I do not declare my candidacy with any illusion that this will be an easy task. It is a very difficult position that requires a huge commitment on my part and my family’s part. The campaign trail will be exhausting, demanding and difficult.
Representing our state in Congress requires a connection to a larger community. This is a unique moment for our country. With so much division, particularly at the national level, we need someone who seeks to bring people together while representing the diverse views of their constituency.
This is what I have done my entire life. Early on in my life, I set aside my personal goals to raise my family. Once my children were older, I became more involved in my community – the community I love and that has given me so many opportunities. I set out to work to create opportunities for others.
One of my proudest accomplishments is the creation of the non-partisan Los Angeles de La Comunidad with the assistance of four other individuals. Today that organization reaches over 5,000 families every year to help them during one of the toughest times of the year, Christmas.
I did not stop there. In 2016, I was elected to represent my community in the Rhode Island Senate. I love my community: it is vibrant and made up hard-working families from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. However, it is also a community with many needs.
I know the hard work that being in office entails. I know that our community needs someone who will always fight for them. I know that I can be that person.
I will not be the person with the most money in this campaign. However, I know that I have what it takes hope to represent Rhode Island in Congress. I ask all my friends and supporters who advocated for me to run to stand with me now as we build the largest grassroots campaign of all the current candidates.
I want to express my gratitude to all those that have declared their candidacy. Your courage to declare your candidacy has inspired me to believe as well. I am excited to share the stage with you to discuss our goals and ideas for moving our state forward. CD1 is made up of people from a broad range of backgrounds, with diverse views. I am running to serve all residents fairly.
