City of Providence News
Dear Neighbor,
As Mayor, I am committed to ensuring our city’s youngest residents are provided access to quality care that fosters healthy development before they begin kindergarten. To achieve this goal, we must start by investing in upgrading early learning facilities to ensure access to high quality childcare options for all families in Providence.
The City of Providence has partnered with the LISC Child Care Facilities Fund to administer the Providence Early Learning Infrastructure Support Program. LISC will provide technical support to childcare providers and the opportunity for grant funding through a competitive application process to support the planning and renovation of their physical space. This funding has been made possible by allocating Providence’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and funds through the City’s budget.
To learn more about this program and the application process, please visit LISC Child Care Facilities Fund. Please note that applications are due by May 19th, and award notifications will be sent out by June 16th. The City of Providence is excited to continue working alongside LISC to support the necessary improvements to provide our families with safe, high-quality childcare.
Reminder to all Providence residents and community members:
The Providence Community Electricity Program will take effect on May 1st. This program aims to help our community members manage electricity costs, increase renewable energy use, and reduce Providence’s carbon footprint! The last day to opt-out before automatic enrollment will be April 8th by mail and April 11th by phone or online.
To learn more about this program, please visit the City’s website, and for any further questions, call NextEra Energy Services at (888) 387-1084.
Please join the City of Providence at any of our upcoming Public Meetings and Presentations and bring any questions or concerns you might have.
Many exciting projects are happening all around Providence, and I am thrilled to see all that we as a community will accomplish this year!
Providence continues to move forward, and that is because we do this work together.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Brett P. Smiley
39th Mayor of Providence
