April Happenings @ the APL
Message from the Director
T. S. Eliot says April is the cruelest month, but APL staff disagree! We’re doing a lot of celebrating this month, starting with a poetry discussionto kick off National Poetry Month on Saturday, April 1st, (no joke)!
The following week has Library Giving Day on April 4th, everyone’s chance to support the Friends, the volunteers supporting the library! We are also creating displays and book lists for Financial Literacy Month, Earth Day, and Dia! (Day of the Child/Day of the Book).
While the rest of the newsletter will tell you all about the DOZENS of events happening here and around the city, I’ll use this space to talk about National Library Week, an annual celebration highlighting the role libraries and library workers play in transforming and strengthening our communities.
In the 21 years I’ve spent at the Attleboro Library, our collections and services have grown and changed to best serve the city. You’ll be hearing about those offerings daily throughout the month. What has not changed is the dedication and enthusiasm of APL staff.
As the saying goes, “Libraries work because we do.” The APL team is made up of staff, administrators, board members, and volunteers with regular assists from city departments.
The creativity, problem solving and collaboration that happens among them every day is what keeps over 300 people a day walking through the doors. Libraries are buildings, it is the people working in them that make the magic happen.
With that in mind, I’m inviting you to help celebrate Library Workers Day with me on Tuesday, April 25th by saying a heartfelt “THANK YOU” to the wonderful people keeping the APL the busy, welcoming place it is!
I look forward to seeing you in the Library. I’ll be the one browsing the poetry display in the lobby!
