RIDE: RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

COMMISSIONER’S MEMO

February Marks Black History Month

ANGELICA INFANTE-GREEN

The start of February marks the start of Black History Month, one of our most important observances and an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the Black community locally and nationally. The month also serves as an opportunity to reflect on both how far we have come and what more we can do to provide every child with an inclusive, high-quality education.

We encourage you to visit this this resource page developed by the 1696 Commission, as well as resources shared by the Rhode Island Secretary of State’s Office.

Additionally, our community partners the Rhode Island Historical Society and Rhode Island Black Heritage Society have provided excellent resources.

RIDE is proud to celebrate Black History Month and remains committed to creating a more equitable education system that empowers young Black Rhode Islanders to make their own mark on history.

In partnership,

Angélica Infante-Green
