Synopsis: Blithe Spirit takes place in Great Britain in 1938. The setting is a comfortably upper middle-class household. English accents will be necessary for all characters except Madame Arcati.
Roles:
Charles Condomine – Successful established novelist. Worldly but decent and loyal husband to Ruth. Previously married to Elvira. Actor must play 30-40 in age.
Ruth Condomine. Gracious wife of Charles for past five years. Previously married. 30-40.
Elvira Condomine. Wife of Charles for seven years. Died tragically young. Appears as ghost throughout the play. Attractive and manipulative. 30-40.
Doctor Bradman. Family friend and physician. Any age.
Madame Arcati. Mystic and spiritualist. Strong comic role. Any age.
Edith. Condomine’s maid. Strong comic role. Any age.
Auditions are at The Newport Playhouse and Cabaret Restaurant, 102 Connell Highway, Newport, Rhode Island.
