Atwater-Donnelly Band at Stone Soup Coffeehouse Providence –

 

 

The Atwater-Donnelly Band will be performing at Stone Soup Coffeehouse on Saturday, February 25, 2023. T

he show starts at 7pm. Tickets are $22 and are available at the door or reserved through our website.

 

Please appear at least 15 minutes before the performance begins, or you will relinquish your tickets to those waiting to attend. It is always a special night when Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly come to perform at Stone Soup Coffeehouse.

 

They have become an iconic duo since their beginnings when they first met at Church of the Redeemer as Stone Soup volunteers many years ago.

 

Based in Warren, Rhode Island, Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly have traveled extensively for thirty-five years in the United States, with occasional trips to Ireland, England, and Canada, to perform as well as find their songs and dances one by one.

 

Tonight, they will be performing with two other outstanding musicians, Cathy Clasper-Torch and Erin Lobb Mason. Parking at The Music Mansion at 88 Meeting St, Providence, RI 02906 is limited and carpooling, ride-sharing, and mass transit are highly encouraged.

 

There is also available parking on Benefit Street, a short set of stairs will lead you right up to the Music Mansion.

ABOUT the Atwater-Donnelly Band

 

Atwater and Donnelly have performed and researched traditional folk music and dance in Appalachia, the Ozarks, New England, and other key places in the United States, as well as Ireland, England and Prince Edward Island.

 

They have performed with or shared festival billing with folk legends Jean Ritchie, Pete Seeger and Doc Watson. Aubrey and Elwood lead workshops, study with traditional musicians and folklorists, play for and call contra-dances, appear of television, and regularly receive standing ovations for their concerts during trips to festivals and camps such as the Hindman Settlement School in Eastern Kentucky, the Augusta Heritage Center in West Virginia, the Old Songs Festival in New York, and the Summer Solstice Festival in Cumberland, Rhode Island, to name a few.

 

In addition to their fourteen recordings, Aubrey has written three books of poetry and two songbooks. Elwoos has written a songbook, a book of recipes and musings, and has created songbooks for “The Halfway Ground” and “The Weaver’s Bonny” recordings.

 

Cathy Clasper-Torch has played and performed on piano, violin, viola, and erhu (Chinese violin) since childhood.

 

A resident of Rhode Island, she teaches piano and violin, and performs and records with several bands and musicians in the area. With a background in classical violin and jazz piano, Cathy adeptly weaves a love of harmonies and improvisation into music.

 

Erinn Lobb Mason, from Louisville, Kentucky, is now living in Rhode Island. She performed regularly in New York as a founding member of Ginny’s Kitchen and the 5 Mile String Band and has also played such old time bands as The Black River Belles, Outhouse Troubadours, 23 String Band, Maiden Radio, and The Lobsters.

 

Erin also performed locally with the folk trio The Whelks.

Stone Soup Coffeehouse is one of the oldest coffeehouse venues in New England, presenting live music on Saturday nights from September through May. Stone Soup presents talented artists such as Greg Brown, Patty Larkin, Ellis Paul, and Catie Curtis as well as many gifted acoustic musicians and songwriters from Rhode Island and the New England Area.

 

Stone Soup Coffeehouse has a history of recognizing talent and is proud to have featured many artists, such as, Dar Williams, Ingrid Michaelson, The Low Anthem, and Erin McKeown, many of whom have since become well known internationally.
