Come Celebrate The Solstice Season
at Skydog Farm
Are you looking for new and meaningful ways to celebrate the holiday season?
Looking for a tribe to connect with and to rekindle traditions that were once a part of your annual celebrations?
Our connection to Nature is our favorite thing to celebrate. Since we are a part of Nature, we celebrate ourselves and each other each time we consciously attune to the cyclical rhythms of seasons.
We invite you all to one of our favorite events:
A Winter Solstice Spiral Wednesday December 21st 6pm
My Moon Sisters and I (Katherine) used to create and share this beautiful ritual with the community down in South County, RI many moons ago.
Three years ago we revived the tradition here at the farmstead with some dear friends who had never experienced a Spiral Walk before.
Everyone who participates finds the experience to be quite powerful. It is a truly unique and meaningful celebration of this time of year, a time of slowing down, turning inward and spiraling to the depths of our most authentic selves.
What is Winter Solstice?
The Winter Solstice marks the turning point of the year, the shortest day, and with it, a celebration of the return of light. Throughout many cultures this midwinter holiday has had festival connotations of light and sun, of the time when winter’s increasing darkness begins to draw to a close with the renewed promise that spring’s light will soon increase.
Among these festivals is Hanukkah (Hebrew), Diwali (Indian), Solstice (Druid), and Advent (Christian). The word advent means “coming” or “arrival.”
The Spiral Walk is a way of acknowledging and honoring this reflective time of year. We celebrate this time of year with a ceremony of light, movement, and change. This ceremony heightens the awareness of moving from darkness to light in a simple and powerful way.
All who attend are invited to walk a path of evergreens, a natural symbol of life in the dead of winter, into the center of the spiral. Each traveler carries with them a red apple with a candle in it to be lit by the burning candle on the altar at the center of the Solstice Spiral.
As we walk out of the spiral, we find a place in the path to set down our candle, illuminating the path for the next travelers walking the path. As we each kindle our own light, the darkness slowly grows into a beautiful golden glow.
The ceremony begins in darkness and ends brightly lit by many individual lights, each contributing to the bright warmth that envelopes us all.
Event is Free and Open to All Ages.
This an Outdoor Event so please dress appropriately for the weather & bring your own apple with a candle to illuminate your spiral journey.
