DARTMOUTH HISTORICAL AND ARTS SOCIETY

UNION OF VENERABLE CSM AND YOUTHFUL DHAS PRODUCES HOLIDAY TWINS!

The Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society (DHAS), established in Dartmouth, Massachusetts in 2011 and the Colonial Society of Massachusetts (CSM), founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1892 have collaborated since 2020.

After a gestation period of over two years the partnership has produced two healthy volumes for social historians, genealogists and family researchers’ delight.

Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the hardcover books published by the duo with the title:

THE MINUTES OF THE DARTMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS MONTHLY MEETING OF FRIENDS 1699–1785

are both brawny at over 800 pages each and represent original (primary) records of the town of Dartmouth during the important colonial period of the town of Old Dartmouth, now, of course, comprising Dartmouth New Bedford, Westport, Fairhaven and Acushnet.

Dedicated to Dan Socha, much loved former project manager of DHAS’s “Quaker Project” and technical leader of the society, who has passed, both volumes can now be viewed electronically at:

ABOUT

The Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society, Inc. organized in 2011 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts is an active and aspiring local non-profit, described succinctly by general editor John Tyler of the Colonial Society of Massachusetts, in the Foreword to an about to be completed hardcover,

“In the sometimes-sleepy world of local historical societies, the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society is a remarkably energetic and ambitious organization. I would even venture to say unique in the scale and usefulness of its undertakings.”

DHAS is particularly proud of its focus and accomplishments in gathering and preserving original/primary records such as the Quaker records, (over 6,000 original manuscript pages); abstracted transcriptions of the land records; and Old Dartmouth Town Meeting records, among others.
