Quonset Wastewater Team Places Second in National Operations Challenge
The Quonset Development Corporation’s (QDC) Wastewater Treatment Facility crew has been making waves.
Two members of the team — Plant Operator Dave Bruno and Superintendent Eddie Davies — competed at the annual National Water & Environmental Federation Operations Challenge in October as part of the Rhode Island contingent.
Forty-five teams from across the country competed to earn the highest score in five different events, each designed to test the skills required for operation and maintenance of water resource recovery facilities, collection systems, and laboratories.
The Ocean State squad finished second out of 15 teams in their division. Davies (above) also took home the Bobby Williams Competitive Spirit Award.
The good news doesn’t stop there – Bruno and Kevin Gardner, an operator and Industrial Pretreatment Program Inspector, both recently completed the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Wastewater Operator Leadership Training.
The program allowed them to learn from peers in the industry and enhance their technical and management skills.
“These honors are a testament to the professional dedication of the Wastewater Treatment Facility team at Quonset,” said Steven King, P.E., managing director of the QDC. “Our team makes it possible to deliver the essential services and infrastructure that support the success of the more than 200 businesses here.”
