Dear Neighbor –
The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on our entire Providence community. To support our city’s recovery, Providence received $166 million dollars in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
In May, after working collaboratively with the Providence City Council, I signed an ordinance that allocated the remainder of our city’s ARPA funds, and I’m writing today with an update on our work so far to put these funds into action.
In May, we celebrated upcoming renovations to the Elmwood Community Centers, including upgraded ventilation systems, increased energy efficiency, upgraded sports facilities and ADA compliant restrooms, as well as new interior and exterior finishes. These renovations are expected to be completed next summer.
Over the summer, PVDFest 2022 brought us together once again to celebrate the Creative Capital. This year’s festival was highly anticipated after the pandemic caused delays, and the event was a great success for the restaurants, bars and shops in downtown Providence.
Sincerely
Jorge O. Elorza
