Dear Neighbor,
As Mayor, I believe that the greatest investment we can make is in the future of our children.
As a product of the City’s public schools, I know that the school system can either be a force for social justice, or it can be a force of continued inequality.
That’s why in 2017, I pledged to advance a 10-year commitment to invest up to $400 million in school infrastructure. This commitment is an important step towards building the innovative, 21st century education system our community and our students need and deserve.
This week, I was proud to join partners and members of the Spaziano family to celebrate the future home of the brand-new Frank D. Spaziano Elementary School Annex.
The $44 million renovation project of the Spaziano Annex is another example of our dedication to the students of Providence.
This new building will inspire our students to learn, be responsive to their needs and prepare them to participate in a 21st century workforce.
Pre-K through Grade 5, complete with outdoor recreation areas, art and STEM rooms, as well as a cafeteria and gymnasium, with room for over 680 Providence students.
Providence school buildings have a long way to go, but this week’s celebration is a reminder that we are moving in the right direction. I look forward to seeing students enter the Spaziano Annex again when it is completed in 2023.
Sincerely,
Jorge O. Elorza
