NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS
As mayor, I will make sure we get back to basics, ensuring that we improve the city services that directly impact our quality of life. I will make sure that snow gets plowed, streets and sidewalks are fixed, graffiti is cleaned up and city hall works for our community. Our city has changed over the years and our city services should catch up.
This starts at 25 Dorrance Street. City Hall should be held accountable for the basic and critical services they deliver. When we fix things, we should do it the right way, the first time! That includes our vendors, who too often are cutting into our streets and sidewalks after they were freshly paved. That stops in January.
We will hold all of our vendors and utility companies accountable for restoring roads and sidewalks to top condition and impose real financial penalties if they don’t. By efficiently managing these contracts and services, we can increase the life of our infrastructure and better coordinate utility and construction work across Providence with as little impact to our residents and businesses as possible.
We can and must do a better job of removing graffiti and trash quickly. Our neighborhoods are beautiful and unique spaces that should be places we are proud of. For too long, we have accepted substandard trash removal and city responses to real quality-of-life issues that impact our community and our environment. As mayor, I will prioritize these services and ensure that Providence is a clean, safe and sustainable space for all.
We will make it easier to report these issues and others like snow removal, excessive noise complaints or regular maintenance. It’s long past time for City Hall to move into the 21st century and streamline our processes and work orders. All services that the city provides should be available online whenever possible and technology should be upgraded to better support our neighbors and businesses.
This relentless focus on getting the basics right will pay major dividends and will make Providence the best-run city in the country. To learn more about my plans to focus on the basics and improve real quality-of-life issues in every single neighborhood in our city visit our campaign website.
Sincerely,
Brett Smiley
