July Artist of the Month – goghfurther of Mansfield, MA

Katie Blundell is a multidisciplinary freelance artist. Under the nom de plume goghfurther, she strives to make art more accessible both in-gallery and via online resources at her website: goghfurther.com. Art has been a constant for goghfurther and an important part of her life

She would like viewers to see her work and be inspired to pursue their passions. So often art can be placed on the back burner and goghfurther is determined to make her art a priority and encourage others to make time for their creative pursuits.

Whether individuals are new to or continuing on in art, she has found community important and above all hopes that her work shows you that you can try things that may be daunting to start.

“I was gifted an art class in which this series sprang from. When asked how I wanted to approach making this artwork, I embraced a new challenge!” remarks goghfurther.

Over the years, goghfurther has learned how to really think through pieces. While she appreciated this skill, it often stopped her from organically making art. With that in mind, goghfurther embarked on a new artistic approach which allowed each piece to become an exploration in curiosity.

While the first piece in the series “play” (pictured above) was created from a class prompt, goghfurther also explored materials that she’s never used in her artworks before. Many of the pieces have focal points which were special objects or collage materials gifted from fellow classmates. As the class came to an end, goghfurther focused on incorporating the various materials she collected as well as a desire to pay homage to her peers who encouraged and supported her with feedback.
