MCSW REGIONAL CONVENTION

Message from the Interim Executive Director

Shaitia Spruell

Happy Pride Month!

Here are a couple of updates from the MCSW:

MCSW hosted a Regional Conversation with the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators and all 11 of our Regional Commissions. This event provided a platform for regional commissioners to discuss the biggest issues facing women and girls in their region.

MCSW released its FY22 Annual Report on June 2nd! You can read it here.

We look forward to celebrating our Commonwealth Heroines Class of 2022 on June 22nd, follow us on Facebook to join us virtually!

Highlights of the Month

On May 24th, State Commissioners Mary-dith Tuitt and Jean Fox joined our Bristol County Regional Commission for a special celebration as three new Regional Commissioners were sworn in by U.S. District Attorney Rachel Rollins, making them the first Commission on the Status of Women in Massachusetts to be comprised of a majority of members of color.

The event was attended by state and local legislators and included many members of the Bristol County community.

The Athena Council, the youth advisory council for our MetroWest Regional Commission, was invited to the State House last week by Senate President Karen Spilka to share the results of their recent survey, addressing teen mental health challenges.

The Senate President has announced that mental health will  a big focus of the next legislative session and appreciated the input of the Athena Council. We’re very proud of the good work of this incredible group of young leaders!
