Team Rhode Island Send-off for USA Games
After two years of cancellations because of COVID-19, the Special Olympics Rhode Island State Summer Games will return to the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, June 4th. This year’s Summer Games will be the most exciting yet, as over 750 athletes will compete in Athletics, Bowling, Cycling, Powerlifting, Swimming and Unified Soccer. Our athletes began practicing in April to prepare for the State Summer Games and are extremely excited to compete and achieve their personal best.
The Summer Games celebration will begin at the State House on Friday, June 3rd at 1:30pm with runners representing Police, Fire, Corrections, and State Troopers carrying the “Flame of Hope” Torch through various cities and towns. At this time we will also be honoring our Team Rhode Island delegation that will be competing at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando from June 5th to June 12th.

Team Rhode Island participating at 2022 Special Olympics USA Games will leave on Saturday, June 4th from Textron Aviation located 544 Airport Road in Warwick. Textron employees will host a reception for the delegation from 6am – 7pm. Media is invited to join us for interviews/photos and a brief speaking program before the 1st plane departs at 6:50am.

The Special Olympics RI State Summer Games Opening Ceremony will begin at 9:30am on Saturday, June 4th in Meade Stadium at the University of Rhode Island. The festivities will highlight the Torch Run with over 300 local Police, Corrections, Fire, State Troopers carrying the “Flame of Hope” to officially open the Summer Games. The Games will conclude on Saturday, wrapping up a day worth of incredible competition and well-deserved victories. “Be a Fan” and come be a part of what promises to be an exciting day of incredible of sports competition.
