Last month, I was joined by my partners on the Providence City Council, members of the Rhode Island House of Representatives and Senate, and community members to
kick off our Save Providence: Vote Yes on 1 communications campaign
The City of Providence is facing a significant financial challenge. The simple fact of the matter is that the City’s required annual pension payments are growing faster than City revenues.
Without action, pension payments will take up more and more of the City’s budget – leaving less funding available for important City investments that make our neighborhoods better, like parks, recreation centers, and street and sidewalk repairs.
Now, we have an opportunity to Save Providence by pursuing a pension obligation bond, which our Pension Working Group agreed is the best past forward to address our city’s financial crisis.
In order to do so, we want to hear from Providence voters. There will be a special election on June 7, and the only question on the ballot is whether or not you think the city should pursue the pension obligation bond.
In case you aren’t able to make it to the polls on June 7, you can vote in-person at City Hall between 8:30AM and 4:30PM now through June 6.
The deadline to vote early is Monday, June 6 at 4:00PM. on June 7. You can vote at your polling place between 7:00AM and 8:00PM, which you can find online here
If you requested a mail ballot, make sure to return it on or before June 7.
