Gallery 175 Exhibits Art by Peter Campbell
Gallery 175 in downtown Pawtucket will be exhibiting paintings and drawings by Peter Campbell from May 2 to June 24, 2002. An accomplished painter and illustrator, Campbell works in a realistic style depicting a wide range of subjects, often with a whimsical twist.
Some of his favorite themes include baseball, toys, landscapes, and space. A reception for the artist will take place on Sunday, May 15 from 2 to 3:30.
In 1989, Campbell was selected by NASA to become a member of its nationally recognized Space Art Program where he spent a week touring, sketching, and photographing the activities at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.. He also witnessed the exciting launch of the space shuttle Atlantis that carried the Venus probe Magellan.
From the experience Peter created the painting Voyage to Venus that now hangs in NASA’s permanent art collection.
He is a graduate of Vesper George School of Art, Boston, Massachusetts. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries throughout the East Coast and his work is represented in many private collections. He has won numerous awards and national honors.
Campbell has designed, written, and illustrated three children’s books, the most recent titled Old-Time Baseball and the First Modern World Series. This book has been selected as an addition to the Baseball Hall of Fame Doubleday Library in Cooperstown.
Campbell has worked as an Associate Creative Director and Senior Graphic Designer for several Rhode Island advertising agencies and corporations. He has three sons and lives in Lincoln, Rhode Island with his wife Karen.
Gallery 175 is located at 175 Main Street in the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center. Hours are 9 am to 5 pm daily.
