Newport, RI – Continuing its commitment to ongoing year-round programming, Newport Classical presents its next spring Community Concert at Aquidneck Park (300 Spring Street) on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at 2:30pm.

The Newport String Quartet – artists-in-residence at the Newport String Project – performs music that celebrates the arrival of spring by Astor Piazzolla, William Grant Still, Franz Joseph Haydn, and Komitas, in a casual, outdoor concert that will be fun for the whole family.

The performance is free and open to the public; advanced registration is requested.

For this performance, Newport Classical is pleased to partner with Newport String Project, a chamber music performance and youth mentoring initiative that aims to build a community that crosses boundaries of generation, heritage, and economic circumstances through access to inspiring musical experiences for all.

The project is anchored by the residency of the Newport String Quartet – Ealain McMullin and Emma Powell, violins; Emily Edelstein, viola; and Jacob MacKay, cello.

The Quartet presents a dynamic concert series each season and provides free lessons each week to 45 students in violin, viola, and cello.

Each of the Quartet’s concerts features works by celebrated composers alongside masterworks by underrepresented composers in traditional and alternative venues around Newport.

Now in its ninth season, the Newport String Project’s distinctive quartet-in-residence model is dedicated to building long-term relationships with students, families, and audiences of all backgrounds.

Up next on April 22, the brilliant 29-year-old Italian-born pianist and first-prize winner of the 2017 International Beethoven Piano Competition Vienna, Rodolfo Leone performs a program of Brahms and Schumann for his debut in Newport.

From April 29-May 1, Newport Classical presents Cliburn-Bound Piano Marathon, featuring nine exceptional amateur pianists in four concerts, with all proceeds to be donated to the World Health Organization’s Emergency Appeal for Ukraine.

On May 13, Newport Classical presents its next Chamber Series concert, featuring harpist Bridget Kibbey and violinist Alexi Kenney, as the two come together for an evening of intimate and finely tuned musicality, from adaptations of the music of John Dowland and J. S. Bach, to masterworks by Camille Saint-Saëns and Sebastian Currier.

Finally, on June 3, pianist Daniel del Pino performs Suite Iberia composed by Isaac Albéniz.

The Newport Classical Music Festival runs from July 1-17, 2022. Complete programming and tickets are now available at www.newportclassical.org.
