Summer 2022 On Saturday, July 9th, from 1pm-3pm, EST, the Book Club will hold a virtual meeting featuring guest speaker Mallory Mortillaro.

Mallory Mortillaro, curator of collections for the Hartley Dodge Foundation, is a Drew University graduate who identified and tracked down the provenance for Auguste Rodin’s 1910 marble sculpture Napoleon Enveloppe Dans Son Reve. The piece has been displayed in the Hartley Dodge Memorial for 75 years, but the sculptor was never identified.

Ms. Mortillaro will tell the story of her journey to authenticate a marble bust of Napoleon – more – sculpted by Auguste Rodin, which had been sitting in a New Jersey town hall for almost 80 years. She will recount the story of being hired straight out of college for a part time art cataloging project and how it morphed into a search for this mysterious piece’s provenance, eventually culminating in its authentication by the world’s leading Rodin expert.

Along the way Ms. Mortillaro will share the story of Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge, the woman who gifted this artwork, along with an entire town hall, all in the name of her one and only lost son. Her lecture is fully illustrated with engaging present day and historic photographs.

Attendees are encouraged to read Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge by Barbara J. Mitnickin preparation for the meeting – however, as always, advance reading of the book is optional and not a prerequisite. Virtual format –

Registration is required to join the meeting. Click on this link to register for the July 9th meeting:
