Hello SNEP Community,
I’d like to be the first to inform you that numerous student positions will soon be made available on USAJobs for the EPA Region 1 office in the Boston area.
While these positions are not yet posted, it’s important for those interested in applying to ensure that their USAJobs account is created and current.
There are numerous resources are available to help in this process such as this EPA page describing how to prepare your account and apply for positions, and these additional USAJobs resources.
Additional information on the Pathways Internship program can be found here. Alternatively, potential applicants might consider searching for additional resources on how to tailor and prepare their federal resume to ensure that they put their best foot forward.
I strongly encourage all current students and recent graduates to consider applying to these student internship opportunities that will soon be available at EPA Region 1.
I can personally attest to the opportunities this internship can afford as I found my job at EPA because of it. While I was in my second year of grad school at UMass Boston, I worked 20 hours/week (paid) at EPA Region 1 in the Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Division while also partnering with scientists in EPA’s Office of Research and Development Narragansett Lab to develop a concept for what would become my graduate thesis topic.
While completing various tasks in ECAD, I was encouraged to look into all aspects of the Agency to best determine where I might be a good fit should a full-time position become available.
I found friends and a mentor in the connections I made at the Narragansett lab, which are stronger today, and I discovered the Southeast New England Program where I was eventually hired as a full-time employee.
The Pathways internship opportunity is unique because of the lateral movement and the training opportunities it provides both inside and outside the EPA.
Please be sure to share this announcement to all new and future student environmental scientists you might know. Take it from me when I say that you couldn’t ask for a better learning experience, or a better start to your career.
Best of luck to all applicants.
Sincerely,
Adam Reilly
