BRIDGEWATER STATE UNIVERSITY

Florida, Here We Come!

Fred Clark, ‘83, president, Bridgewater State University, is heading back to Florida to visit Bridgewater State alumni who now call the Sunshine State home. He’ll pack his traditional dark suits, plenty of white button-down shirts, his signature BSU-red ties and perhaps a pair of cool shades.

He will be joined by his wife Carrie Kulick-Clark, ‘85, G’98, president of the Bridgewater State Alumni Association, daughter Reilly, ‘25, Ellen Cuttle Oliver, ‘82, G’89, Executive Director of the BSU Foundation and Chief Development Officer, and Betsy Dubuque, G’11, Director of Development. Chance of their wardrobes being a bit more colorful and diverse? 100%.

Cuttle Oliver explains, “We are thrilled to get back to visit our sunshine-loving Bears in person this year. In fact, we  added new locations, Lakewood Ranch and Delray Beach, so we can catch up with even more alumni.”

Visits are held at a combination of alumni homes and private clubs. Guests hosts this year include Mr. Jeff Tuller, ’78, and Mrs. Lynne Tuller at Lakewood Ranch; Art Thenvenin and Sue (Libby) Thenvenin, ’64, G’74, in Bradenton; and Mailea and Dr. Paul Hobaica, ’88, with Roberta Hobaica, ’83, in Naples. Kulik-Clark notes, “It’s a great way to connect with alumni; sort of like a traveling ‘Welcome Wagon’ tour.”

All agree, the pandemic has made university leaders all the more aware that engaging alumni is everyone’s responsibility. Not unlike how Clark and his team welcome students at the start of each school year, his goal is to extend that same warmth and connection to alumni many miles away.

Both Clarks share a deep love of their alma mater. Fred Clark shares, “Even back in my undergraduate days, I remember thinking if I was ever blessed to be a leader in the Bridgewater administration, I would want to be a hand’s-on person, rekindling the spirit and specialness of our campus with our stellar graduates.”

The March visit features four separate locations. We hope to see you at one or more!
