TEN MILE RIVER RAMBLES

AN AMERICAN CHESTNUT FOREST?

BY DON DOUCETTE

Rambling in thought regarding common interests of watershed and urban forest/ land trust groups is the common plight of our remaining native American Chestnut Forest.

We lost the majesty of these native trees decades ago to blight yet living stumps of those which yet remain in our urban forests can readily be recognized.

We know that the American Chestnut Foundation functions to help restore these trees to our native forest settings. We can help buy precious time as this vital research continues.

We as concerned local environmental groups might begin to collectively inventory through a common global positioning log to monitor the exact locations of our area’s living American Chestnut stumps for protection and study purposes.
