TOWN OF SMITHFIELD ANNOUNCES OPENING OF TESTING SITE TO BETTER SERVICE RESIDENTS SEEKING COVID-19 PCR AND RAPID TESTS.
Smithfield, RI – The Town of Smithfield announced today that approval has been granted from the RI Department of Health to open a public testing site located at 9 Cedar Swamp Road. Beginning on Wednesday, January 26th, the testing site will be open on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 5:00 p.m.
“Our Fire Department, Emergency Management Agency and the Town’s administration have been working with state health officials and the state’s COVID response team to establish a local testing site,” said Town Manager Randy R. Rossi. “We completed the process of getting this site up and running in a relatively short amount of time. This service will give our residents a quick and convenient testing location here in Smithfield.”
Town Council President Suzy Alba said “The opening of this additional testing site is another great service being provided by Town to help keep our residents safe and, hopefully, get us closer to the end of this pandemic.”
The storefront being rented at 9 Cedar Swamp Road has easy access and plenty of parking. Costs associated with running the site will be reimbursed by FEMA. The Town’s testing site meets all requirements for COVID-19 testing as set forth by the Rhode Island Department of Health.
