RIDE: RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Notes from Commissioner Infante-Green

Updated COVID-19 Guidance for Pre-K-12 Education

RIDE takes the health and safety of our school communities incredibly seriously, and accordingly, we have been working closely with our partners at RIDOH as they develop updated COVID-19 guidelines for Pre-K-12 education. Now, RIDOH has published new guidance for schools, which you can read here:

https://health.ri.gov/publications/memoranda/20220106-COVID-Prevention-Strategies-PreK-12.pdf

These new guidelines, which follow the CDC’s latest recommendations, will ensure students benefit from the academic and social-emotional supports of in-person learning while protecting their health and safety. Our schools, with multiple layers of mitigation and structured environments, continue to be one of the safest places for our students.

We’re looking forward to continuing to work with school leaders in each district to support them in providing the high-quality education their students deserve.

I would like to share a note of gratitude to every administrator, educator, and parent who has reached out to us during this time. These are uncertain times and, like all of you, we share your concerns about the safety of our students and staff in schools.

Your feedback has been invaluable in this process, and I’m hopeful that this new guidance will meet the needs of all of our school communities.
