RIDE: RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Notes from Commissioner Infante-Green

Angélica Infante-Green

Vaccinations and Boosters Available

It’s hard to believe, but we’re already in the holiday season. As the calendar year comes to a close and winter begins, we’re all excited to gather with our friends and families and celebrate.

At the same time, however, COVID-19 is spreading in Rhode Island. Pediatric cases and hospitalizations have surged over the past two weeks. We need to make sure we’re doing everything possible to keep our children and ourselves healthy — and that means practicing the 3 Vs: Vaccinate, Ventilate, and Visit Safely.

Everyone age 5 and up is eligible for a vaccine!

The vaccine is safe, effective, and ensures that our children can stay in school engaged and learning. To find an appointment for children ages 5 to 11, visit covid.ri.gov/5to11vaccine

The vaccine is always free, regardless of your insurance status.

And for us adults and our older children who have already been vaccinated, it’s time to get our booster. Everyone age 16 or older is eligible — you can learn more and schedule an appointment for a booster at covid.ri.gov/boosterdoses.

And when we do get together, don’t forget to ventilate and bring in as much fresh air as possible and to visit safely by wearing a mask when indoors with people you don’t live with or in crowded areas outdoors.

Also, make sure to get tested if you experience symptoms of COVID-19.

Working together, we can make this a safe and wonderful holiday for all of our students and families!
