Henri is a beautiful Silver Slate turkey.
He arrived at Winslow Farm in April of 2017, when he needed a new home.
Henri is loaded with personality and is quite a character. In the summer, he likes to cool off in his pool. He loves grapes and peanuts, and he will eat right out of the hand of our staff member, Tracy.
He also likes to keep Tracy company while she prepares produce for the farm animals and enjoys basking in the sun.
Several weeks ago, Henri was walking with a noticeable limp. It got to the point where he was depressed and standing on one leg.
Debra White wrapped his wings, placed him in a soft pet carrier and traveled to Tufts in Grafton to be seen by a veterinarian.
Henri was a good passenger in her truck the entire way. Henri was examined and it was decided that he would stay overnight for observation and tests.
Thankfully, Henri’s bloodwork proved negative for the bacteria, mycoplasma, and his joint fluid culture came back negative as well.
His radial exam showed some deterioration in a toe joint, which was causing pain and inflammation. Additionally, it was determined that Henri also had an ear infection! Henri was put on antibiotics and medicine for pain and inflammation for two weeks.
Henri returned to the vet two weeks later for a follow-up, where he was given a secondary parasite dose. Henri checked-out well, however, he will need long term support with pain medication.
Henri’s veterinarian costs were just under $3000.
