LTE: BEN COTE

Good Morning Friends of the Ten Mile and Bucklin Brook,

I hope everybody had a good Halloween and that you are all taking the time to enjoy the cooler weather and look forward to the upcoming Holiday Season.

I wanted to let everybody know what a great time our 3 part walk down the entire Ten Mile River was. The few of us that completed the journey had a great time, shared many laughs and stories, and got to know the Ten Mile on a level not seen since Don Doucette and his friend completed the walk in 1995.

We did it in 3 days, they did it in 2 (you win!). To follow up that walk, we are going to do a part 4 this coming Sunday at 8:00.

We will walk the upper portion of Narragansett Bay as a continuation of the journey of the Ten Mile. We will meet at Slater Mill in Pawtucket and car shuffle to the end of the Ten Mile in East Providence.

We will walk along the Seekonk River, which is the northern most arm of the bay and the northern most portion of Atlantic Ocean influence within the state of Massachusetts.

We will pass the outfall of Bucklin Brook and will end where the Blackstone River pours in, ending it’s journey from Worcester. That will end the Friends journey, but rumor has it a crazy group of people might continue from there up the Blackstone into Worcester.

I can not confirm nor deny.

On the same day, Attleboro Land Trust is leading a hike on the Chorney Property in North Attleboro and to the Angle Tree near the headwaters of the Seven Mile River.

Meet at the parking area on Ellis Road at 2:00 PM. One of our members will be leading and it should be an interesting time. This is a very historical walk, but I will save the information to the tour guide so I don’t steal anything from the walk.

That and the fact that I don’t know! I’ll find out though!

Finally, we will be doing a Black Friday Cleanup and Coat Drop Off on Friday, November 26, 2021 (buy nothing day). We will meet at noon at the parking lot up the hill from the Slater Park Duck Pond in Pawtucket (opposite the carousel).

We will  spend an hour cleaning, working off dinner from Thursday, and enjoying each other’s company. If you have an old coat you no longer need, please bring it and we will donate it to the one of the various coat drives going on.

Sorry for the long email. I hope to see you at some or all of these events coming up.
