A New Heart Man at Brown and the Skinny on Acadia

Dr. Mukesh K. Jain

 

Dr. Mukesh K. Jain, chief academic officer at University Hospitals health system in Cleveland and vice dean for medical sciences at Case Western Reserve University, was named dean of medicine and biological sciences at Brown University.

 

A physician-scientist specializing in cardiovascular medicine, Jain will succeed Dr. Jack A. Elias, Brown’s dean of medicine and biological sciences for eight years.

 

The University of Maine at Fort Kent appointed Patrick Lacroix as director of its Acadian Archives.

 

The archives were established by the Maine Legislature in 1989 to document, research and disseminate information about the Acadian culture, way of life and history of the Franco-American and Acadian people of the Upper St. John river Valley, and their relationship with the indigenous First People of the region including the Malisset and Mi’kmaq.

 

A former reporter, Lacroix has taught American, Canadian and Acadian history at the University of New Hampshire, Phillips Exeter Academy and liberal arts colleges in Canada.

 

St. Michael’s College Dean of the Faculty Tara Natarajan was named the next provost and vice president of academic affairs at Earlham College in Indiana.

 

MIT labor economist Joshua D. Angrist was named a winner of the 2021 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. He shares the award with Guido Imbens of the Stanford Graduate School of Business and David Card of the University of California at Berkeley.
