City of Pawtucket to Move Forward on Dog Park
PAWTUCKET- As a response to advocacy and support from those in the Fairlawn neighborhood, the City of Pawtucket has decided to move forward with the proposal for a dog park in Veterans Memorial Park.
After being approached by Marlena Martins Stachowiak, the City has begun to analyze the possibility for a dog park adjacent to the Fairlawn Veterans Memorial Pool.
“We are always working to provide the resources and services our community needs and wants,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “A dog park in this location makes sense with how often Pawtucket families visit the park. We appreciate that a lot of time and hard work went into advocating for this dog park and are excited that we will be moving forward with this opportunity.”
Community leaders had provided a petition and canvassed the surrounding neighborhood to gauge interest in a new facility next to the existing structure. Pawtucket Engineering has worked to determine the feasibility of the location as a new dog park.
The design phase of the park will begin during the winter of 2021 with groundbreaking anticipated in the spring of 2022.
