The Southeast New England (SENE) Film Festival returns to Rhode Island with an exciting lineup of 132 short and feature-length films from filmmakers across the country and around the world.
The 13th Annual SENE Film Festival runs October 13-16 and includes multiple programs showcasing the work of local filmmakers:
Slatersville: America’s First Mill Village episode #10 The Mental Smuggler!, directed by Rhode Island filmmaker Christian De Rezendes, will screen Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 pm at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
America’s textile mill industry was founded through the memory of Samuel Slater… With the exportation of spinning machinery and plans from England forbidden by parliament, he immigrated to the U.S., and built America’s first successful textile mill entirely from memory… Admission is free, but seating is limited. The feature documentary Bound By Blue, by Rhode Island filmmakers Katherine Reaves, Susan Bush and Laura Parsons, screens Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 pm at the Artists’ Exchange in Cranston, Rhode Island.
The film focuses on the memoirs of Edith Littlefield Blane of Block Island, Rhode Island. Lively and informative, they reflect moments of a robust life well lived from one century into another in these times, our times.
Maurice, written and directed by Rhode Island filmmaker and actor Stephen Martin, screens Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 pm at Theater 82 in Cranston, Rhode Island as part of the festival’s Opening Night Shorts program.
Maurice King, a popular local singer who served time in prison, attempts to clear his name and start a new life.
The horror film Seeds, written and directed by Massachusetts filmmaker Skip Shea, screens Thursday, October 14 at 8:15 pm at Theater 82 in Cranston, Rhode Island.
Macha and Andrew, a grieving couple, have their lives thrown further into turmoil as they are both drawn to a secretive cult located in seclusion somewhere in the deep woods of New England. A cult that is also targeted by Cardinal Sinibaldi from the Vatican who desperately want their secrets for his means. Secrets that have fatal consequences. Secrets that are found in the seeds.
The festival’s popular New England Shorts program, showcasing the work of New England-based filmmakers, screens Thursday, October 14 at 6:15 pm at Theater 82 in Cranston, Rhode Island.
Over the course of the four-day festival, SENE will screen a total of 19 short film programs featuring drama, comedy, animated, documentary, LGBTQ, sci-fi, and horror programs. Included in these programs are 25 short films from local area filmmakers. Most film programs will include a Q&A session with attending filmmakers.
Slatersville will screen at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center. All other screenings will take place at the Artists’ Exchange, 50 Rolfe Square in Cranston, and at the nearby Theatre 82 at 82 Rolfe Square. The Artists’ Exchange and the SENE Film Festival will be adhering to all CDC and state of Rhode Island COVID-19 precautions.
Tickets to all screening programs are $10 ($7 seniors/students) and are available at the door. $25 SENE Passes are available which allow access to unlimited film programs during the festival. Festival passes and tickets to select film programs are available in advance online.
