ABA PIRATES HOST TOURNAMENT

First Battle of The Ocean State High School Tournament A Success!

Our Pirates hosted a two day tournament at Kent County YMCA this past Friday and Saturday. The tournament involved six local teams from Rhode Island. As they faced off against one another throughout the play in games, playoffs, and 3-point shootout.

In the end it was Classical High School that won the Battle of The Ocean State. Going undefeated the final day of the tournament. Championship M.V.P. Marquis Buchanan (Middle of photo in orange) dominated in every aspect of the championship game. Helping lift Classical over the second place Tolman High School to win the Battle of The Ocean State Tournament.

The 3-point contest was also a great success, where each participating team elected one player to represent them in the contest. It was a very contentious contest as there were multiple ties leading to sudden death eliminations during the contest. In the end Classical’s Ned Fitzpatrick (purple in photo) ran away with the contest, putting up an impressive score of 19 made threes on 25 shots.

With this Battle of The Ocean State Tournament being the first one your Pirates have hosted, we view this event to have been very fun and successful. The tournament consisted of great games, excellent basketball, and a great building of community. We hope to host this tournament again sometime in the future in order to see if there will be a new champion of the Ocean State!
