Victory Over Japan Day

Victory over Japan Day is the day on which Imperial Japan surrendered in World War II, in effect bringing the war to an end.

 

The term has been applied to both of the days on which the initial announcement of Japan’s surrender was made – August 15, 1945, in Japan, and because of time zone differences, August 14, 1945 – as well as to September 2, 1945, 

PAWTUCKET- Please join the Pawtucket Veterans Council, Mayor Donald R. Grebien, and the Pawtucket City Council in a ceremony honoring the Anniversary of Victory Day in remembrance of the end of WWII in the Pacific. The event will take place on Monday, August 9th at 11:00 am at Pawtucket City Hall in the Amphitheatre.
