I wanted to pass along this fundraiser for the Tomaquag Museum, Rhode Island’s only Indigenous-led museum.
Tomaquag needs immediate financial support to replace their air conditioning unit. High temperatures and humidity levels jeopardize the museum’s collections and make it uncomfortable for visitors.
The GofundMe organizer Ilana Rose writes: “The Tomaquag Museum is preparing to begin construction of a new museum in Kingston RI, with galleries and educational spaces scheduled to open in 2023.
Until then, it will continue to use its building in Exeter for exhibits and public programs.
In 2023, the Exeter building will be converted to interim collections storage.
A new air conditioning unit enables the Tomaquag Museum to educate visitors about the Native American cultures of southern New England and preserve its collections not only this summer, but for years to come.”
