OP ED: REHOBOTH DEMOCRATIC TOWN COMMITTEE

REHOBOTH – Anything that a School Committee member says or does reflects directly upon our School District.

Statements made and actions taken on social media by School Committee member Katie Ferreira-Aubin were ignorant and disrespectful, and her defense of them was inexcusable. We, the Rehoboth Democratic Town Committee, condemn the lack of professionalism that Ms. Ferreira-Aubin has shown, and call on the Regional School Committee to hold her accountable.

Ms. Ferreira-Aubin must be held accountable for her despicable comments, profane gestures, and comparisons to the horrors of the Holocaust. Not only has she blatantly disregarded the values and history of the Jewish population, she has gone further to slander the non-binary, BIPOCs, and victims of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Someone presiding over the education of our students must set an example of respect, decency, and tolerance for our next generation.

We strongly urge all concerned Dighton-Rehoboth citizens, teachers, and students to attend the August 10th School Committee meeting in Dighton-Rehoboth High School’s Media Center at 6:30 pm to address this issue.
