FREE: MANAGING HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS WORKSHOP

Free Virtual Workshop on Managing Complex Historical Collections

(Providence, RI) Need a brush-up on your cataloging skills?  If you are a professional, volunteer or student associated with one of Rhode Island’s repositories or cultural institutions, you can register for a free virtual workshop, Managing Complex Collections, presented by the Rhode Island Historical Records Advisory Board (RIHRAB) on Friday, June 25th at 9 a.m.

This workshop, led by professional registrar Dana Signe K. Munroe of the Rhode Island Historical Society, will examine accession and deaccession techniques, discuss potential challenges and solutions, and offer recommendations for best practices.

Munroe currently manages collections tracking and processing for the Society. With over 20 years of experience working in New England libraries and museums, She brings a diverse knowledge of services to the workshop, including curation, cataloging, collections access, exhibit design, and information resources.

The 90-minute program is limited to 40 participants. Following the workshop, attendees may join an optional Q&A session with the State Archivist and RIHRAB members.

Managing Complex Collections is the second of four workshops to be offered by RIHRAB in 2021 with support from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC). Later this year, sessions on Do-It-Yourself Conservation and a Round Robin on Paper Preservation will be held.

Pre-registration is required at rihrab.com, using the link to RIHRAB Workshop Series.

RIHRAB serves as a central advisory body for historical records planning and project development for NHPRC-funded projects in the state and encourages and supports communication and coordination among the historical records community.
