HOPE STREET FARMER’S MARKET

Hope Street Farmer’s Market celebrates its 30th year as a farmer and member- cooperative!

Saturday, May 1st, the Hope Street Farmer’s Market will return to the north end of Lippett Park in Providence, RI. The market will operate 9am-1pm every Saturday from May 1st through October 30th.

Hope Street Farmer’s Market was recognized as one of the country’s 10 Best Farmer’s Markets in the U.S. by USA Today in 2019. The market began in 1991 as the Downcity Farmers Market Cooperative and was originally located at Providence’s Kennedy Plaza, later moving its location to Hope High School on the East Side. In 2008, the market officially changed its name to the Hope Street Farmers Market Association when it moved to its current location at Lippitt Park.

”We have 40 vendors participating this season. Our member vendors include vegetable and fruit growers  and vendors selling local meat, seafood,  cheese, coffee, baked goods and more. The vast majority of products are sourced, grown or produced locally in Rhode Island and the surrounding New England areas,” says Rui David, Market Manager.

Many vendors will offer pre-ordering and pickup if you would like to make your market visit more efficient.

The Hope Street Farmer’s Market will operate with Covid-19 safety protocols; similar to last year, the market will require face masks and social distancing when shopping, but will not have limits on the number of customers entering the market at one time. A food truck will be available on-site for meals to be enjoyed and the market requests that customers please move outside the market area to eat.

The Providence Artisans Market is located in the south end of Lippitt Park and coincides with the timing of the farmer’s market each Saturday.

The Hope Street Farmer’s Market cautions customers not to confuse our long-running market with Farm Fresh Rhode Island’s Saturday market on Sims Avenue at their new facility, which opened in the fall of 2020 and also runs every Saturday 9am-1pm.

As in prior years, the Hope Street Market will continue to accept Farm Fresh RI’s Bonus Bucks and Fresh Bucks programs which make shopping the market affordable and convenient.

Visit the Welcome Table at the market and double your EBT/SNAP. Spend $1/get $1 in FREE Bonus Bucks to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables at the farmers market! You can also swipe a debit/credit card and receive Fresh Bucks market tokens to spend with vendors. This program absorbs the credit card fees that a vendor normally is charged when they process your payment directly. The Fresh Bucks coins can be used at many Rhode Island markets and never expire. Visit farmfreshri.org for more information on either of these programs.
