Auld Lang Syne from the Auld State House
As 2020 draws to a close, let’s look back at one of the best things to happen during this unusual year. The long-anticipated restoration of the Old State House (1760-62 et seq.) in Providence, our headquarters since 1975, is nearly complete.
RIHPHC staff and commissioners are very grateful to the Old State House Restoration project team, including:
Architect Cornelis “Corrie” de Boer AIA of Haynes/de Boer Architecture + Preservation
General Contractor Mike Martone, Project Manager Dennis Blanchette, and Project Superintendent Ron Mako, and the talented crew at Martone Service Company
Ron Diodati, Jerry St. Angelo Sr, and Jerry St. Angelo Jr. of R + D Masonry
The crew at Apollo Roofing & Sheet Metal
Project Manager Charles LaDue II and Carole Cornelison of RI-Department of Administration/Division of Capital Asset Management & Maintenance
Jack Afonso of AA Stone
Of course, we can’t overlook RIHPHC architects Virginia Hesse and Roberta Randall for their dedication to this project.
The project team continues to meet (no matter where!) and collaborate. We anticipate construction activity will wrap up in warmer weather in 2021. RIHPHC will continue to update you on further progress and completion.
The Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission wishes you a very happy new year.
