GIRL SCOUTS OF SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND

Valerie Gelb Named National Treasurer

Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England (GSSNE) is honored to announce that local Middletown Girl Scout alum, Valarie Gelb, has accepted the role of Treasurer on the National Board of Directors for Girl Scouts of the USA.

As a pragmatic Chief Executive Officer, Corporate Executive and Board Director with extensive experience driving sustainable growth for leading multibillion-dollar, global financial services companies, Gelb has become a valuable asset to GSUSA bringing a multitude of benefits to the world of Girl Scouting. Having served as one of the top 18 senior executives at Mastercard, she shaped and defined Mastercard’s long-term strategy for the 2006 IPO and oversaw the day-to-day development of the sales infrastructure in 210 countries and territories.

In turn, she successfully increased Mastercard’s revenue by 175% through a 58-country agreement, developing an innovative private label solution and managing Mastercard’s largest global customer, Citibank.

Working with global diversity groups and leaving a legacy at Mastercard through the formation of global Women’s Leadership with quantifiable results in creating pipelines for advancement and long lasting diversity and inclusion, Gelb has also been a driving force in strategizing a response for 2.6 million Girl Scouts during the COVID-19 pandemic as Treasurer elect and Investment Committee Chair for Girl Scouts of the United States of America.

It was a natural fit for Gelb to become Treasurer having founded the Global Fund for Women Corporate Leadership Council, which consists of the top 12 women from F500 companies, who mentor future leaders, network, and engage in philanthropy, ultimately parlaying that experience into becoming Chief Executive Officer and serving women led organizations in over 180 countries across the globe.

GSSNE CEO Pam Hyland, stated, “It is wonderful to have one of the officers for Girl Scouts of the USA residing in our council jurisdiction!  While Valarie’s passion and commitment is extended to Girl Scouts across our nation, it has also been demonstrated locally through her attendance at local events as well as her commitment to enduring the future sustainability of our beautiful Camp Rocky Farm located in Newport.  I am deeply grateful to Valarie for all she does.”
