Republican lawmakers request public analysis of Massachusetts’s universal mail-in voting

WOBURN — Massachusetts Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons on Wednesday praised several GOP lawmakers for calling on state officials to examine and report on this fall’s experience with universal mail-in voting.
In a letter signed by state Sen. Ryan Fattman of Sutton, state Rep. Nick Boldyga of Southwick, and state Rep. Marc Lombardo of Billerica, the three lawmakers — all members of the Joint Committee on Election Laws — request Secretary of State William Galvin to “identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) related to the no-fault vote by mail system.”
Lyons said the request is in the public’s best interest and noted that several Massachusetts town clerks have already expressed concerns with universal mail-in voting , a practice Democrats are trying to extend into at least the summer of 2021.
“These three Republicans are simply asking our state election officials to keep the public informed,” Lyons said. “Massachusetts has never had an election season like the one we just experienced, and the public has a right to know how it was handled.”
Lyons said he hopes Galvin acts in the best interests of transparency and makes the results of the proposed SWOT analysis public.
“Given the levels of public mistrust surrounding the manner in which the presidential election was conducted, Massachusetts voters deserve to know whether or not our recent experiment with no-fault mail-in voting can be trusted,” said Lyons. “I’m happy that these Republicans are leading the way in asking for a detailed analysis, and for those reports to be made public.”
