WOMR Celebrates Life & Work of Tom Conklin
Community radio’s former station manager, DJ, board member, treasurer to be remembered with memorial show.
Provincetown, MA, November 16, 2020: The late Tom Conklin will be remembered via a memorial radio show on November 22 from 6 to 9 pm ET, community radio station WOMR announced today.
WOMR Operations Manager Matthew Dunn worked with Tom’s daughter, India Conklin, to put together some of Tom’s archival programs with tributes she has collected from friends and family. The footage is of Tom’s Roots Beat reggae show, with shows originally recorded between June of 1991 and March of 1993.
“I think it’s a brilliant way to honor Tom’s great work here at WOMR,” says John Braden, executive director. “It really highlights the passion he brought to community radio. Plus, his birthday was November 19th, so the tribute is also a way of celebrating what would have been his 73rd birthday.”
The program will be available on WOMR’s website for two weeks after the broadcast at WOMR.org. Conklin died October 12, 2016, his ashes are buried in the Provincetown Cemetery.
