PAWTUCKET: ADULT TENNIS WINNERS

PAWTUCKET PARKS & RECREATION ADULT TENNIS LEAGUE WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The Pawtucket Parks and Recreation adult tennis leagues at the Kenney Tennis Courts located in Slater Memorial Park came to a close this past weekend following some great competition this summer.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and inclement weather, matches that should have started on May 4, began late in June and concluded September 3.

In the Women’s Doubles Division 1 league, first place was awarded to the duo of Bev Smith from Cumberland and Joanne Vadnais of Pawtucket.  Melanie Atwood and Karen Scanlan, both from North Attleboro, took second place honors while Emily Field and Emily Demers of Seekonk rounded out the third place standing.

Division 2 in the Women’s Doubles league left second place in a tie between and Cheryl Poisson from Pawtucket and Roberta Preve from Attleboro and Ann McCaffrey and Denise D-Orio of Cumberland.  Dori Alger and Ruth Hanahan, both from Cumberland received third place while Lori Avallone and Laurie Oglivie, also from Cumberland, received the honors of Division 2 Women’s Doubles champions.

The champion seat in the Womens Singles league was secured by Sam Hedden of Warren.  Emily Field captured second place while Morgan Anderson took third place.  Both are from Seekonk.

The Division 1 Men’s Singles winner was Jean-Paul DuJardin from Barrington, defeating Matt Pavao of Lincoln – 6-2, 6-3.  The winner of Division 2 was Stephen Germani from Lincoln defeating Ryan Cassidy of Attleboro, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.  In Division 3, Quinn Corbett from Pawtucket defeated Joe Gagliardi of Seekonk,  6-3, 7-5

The league facilitators this year were Diana Adamczyk, Katherine Braganca and Scott Corain.  The Pawtucket Parks & Recreation Division is appreciative to the United States Tennis Association for their award of the Facility Recovery Grant this year to the City of Pawtucket and others, to help community tennis programs get underway throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.  Tennis players and enthusiasts are encouraged to follow the “Slater Park Tennis” Facebook page for future tennis programs.

 

The Pawtucket Parks and Recreation adult tennis league takes place on weeknights every year from May through August.
