Notes from Commissioner Infante-Green
Moving Forward as One Team
ANGELICA
As you know, earlier this week the Governor and I made some initial announcements regarding planning for school next fall. As with all our work throughout the spring, our goal remains to make school happen for all our students, consistent with the latest public health guidance. We want all our students in class — but only when it can be done safely for everyone involved.
The statewide calendar we released and will be using next year will provide a stable foundation for all our work together. The benefits extend beyond our ability to plan and react to changes to the public health situation. For example, we have already heard from teachers who are excited that they can finally take vacation with their own kids who attend different schools.
Now we have to dive into an intense planning cycle. Our team at RIDE is working with RIDOH, the Governor’s office, and a host of partners to complete our planning guidance. We have incredible confidence in your ability to use that guidance as you develop a range of options that work for your local communities, your schools, your teachers, and your students. And just as we did during Distance Learning, our RIDE team will be with you every step of the way.
From the time the first COVID-19 patient in Rhode Island was identified, this has been a statewide education team effort. We have made a national mark as a result. I am excited to build on that spirit and prepare for the next school year together. Thank you again for being such valuable partners in the work.
