Winters Elementary to be Demolished with New Rebuild in Horizon
City Continues Commitment to School District Upgrades
Pawtucket – The Pawtucket School Committee, the Pawtucket School Department, Mayor Donald R. Grebien, and the City Council have announced the first phase of the complete ground up rebuild of Winters Elementary School. Demolition is set to begin the first week of June with Winters expected to welcome students back in the Fall of 2022.
“We continue to make meaningful investments in our school buildings thanks to the taxpayers of this City. The Winters demolition marks the start of our largest project yet, a state of the art, ground up build,” said School Committee Chairman Gerard ‘Jay’ Charbonneau. “We are thrilled for the Winters community. I appreciate Mayor Grebien and the City Council’s collaborative spirit and leadership as we continue rebuilding our schools.”
“We are a community that values our children and is committed to ensuring they are educated in 21st Century school buildings that will enhance their learning experience. I thank the Mayor, City Council, School Committee, and residents for the investment in our children’s future,” said Superintendent McWilliams.
“We are committed to providing all of our students with a conducive environment to learn,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “The demolition of Winters is yet another step in the right direction as we continue to upgrade all of our schools. I thank the City Council, School Committee, and School Department for their continued partnership in providing our students with the tools they need and deserve to succeed.”
“I can speak on behalf of the entire City Council that we are extremely excited to see the first phase begin in the construction of this state-of-the art STEAM facility for our students. Once completed, it will be a prime example of how all bodies of municipal government can work together for a common goal which is providing our students with the finest education possible. This is a lifetime investment that will pay dividends for years to come,” said Council President Dave Moran. “The Council looks forward to its eventual completion and congratulations goes out to the School Committee, School Department, Mayor Grebien and his Administration, City Council and most importantly, the students themselves who will reap the benefits from this facility.”
Following on the heels of the complete renovation of both Potter Burns Elementary and Nathanael Greene Elementary, Winters will provide a state-of-the art STEAM facility for students. Furthermore, all 17 of Pawtucket’s public schools have received major health and safety upgrades. These improvements, which include improvements to security and facilities, have been made possible by the overwhelming support of Pawtucket residents through the approval of several major bond referendum questions.
