FLICKERS RECEIVES NEW ENGLAND EMMY® NOMINATION

RHODE ISLAND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

2019 Public Service Announcement Campaign Created for The Rhode Island International Film Festival Celebrates International Filmmakers and Rhode Island Tourism

(PROVIDENCE, RI • May 7, 2020) • The FLICKERS’ Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) has been nominated for a New England Emmy® Award.

The Board of Governors of the Boston/New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) notified Flickers about the nomination in the category of Public Service Announcement (PSA) – Single Spot in the 43rd Annual Boston/New England Emmy competition.

This marks the 15th time video work produced by Flickers has gone on to be nominated for Emmy Awards. There have been four (4) wins.

Over the past 38 years Flickers has been empowering filmmakers from across the globe. As New England’s only Oscar®, BAFTA and Canadian Screen-qualifying film festival, the Rhode Island International Film Festival has had 71 films nominated for Academy Awards. Ten films have won.

This year’s Emmy® nomination “Discovery” is a magical realist homage to the curation of films and how they arrive in the Ocean State.

In 2019, Flickers received over 6,500 entries from over 65 countries. The spot implies that similar to finding shells on a beach (a traditional New England past time), films arrive to the Festival via the ocean currents.

“Discovery,” Flickers’ 2019 PSA campaign features a 1:24 min. and 30 sec. spot. Shot at Weekapaug Beach, Westerly, Rhode Island on the Red Weapon 8K Camera with Atlas Anamorphic Lenses, the campaign was directed/edited by Eric Latek, conceived by Duncan Putney and featured actor, Michael Grando. Shawn Quirk from Flickers served as Producer. George T. Marshall was the Executive Producer.

The PSA campaign played on WLNE ABC6, Cox Communications/Cox Media, and WSBE Rhode Island PBS.

“We are proud to be in such excellent company with this PSA Campaign nomination and grateful for the recognition of our promotional campaign for the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival.

We extend sincere thanks to everyone who made this promotional piece, which pays tribute to the beauty of New England’s coastline and the incredible films we receive every year from across the globe” said Michael Drywa, Esq., Flickers Advisory Board President.
