Good Morning,
This is a weekly update on the two surveys we have going at the moment.
Fish Counting- Both sites have been visited a few times by a few different volunteers. No fish observed making their way up the brook.
As far as I know, fish have not yet been observed going up the fish ladder at Hunts Mills, so we are likely looking at another week at least until fish are spotted in the brook.
I was informed by Pawtucket Parks and Recreation that as of today, Slater Park is closed to vehicles.
That makes access to Sucker Pond more difficult. Our volunteers stated that the extra walk in will not be a problem.
Vernal Pool- A member has volunteered to survey a vernal pool near her house in Attleboro near Attleboro Springs in the Thacher Brook drainage.
She sent audio and peepers were heard. She will continue to listen and hopefully check the water for eggs.
No eggs have been observed at the Elks Club Vernal Pool and wood frogs and peepers have quieted down.
I was thinking it might be the colder weather, but I am still hearing peepers in other areas. We will continue to monitor this and hopefully find out what’s going on.
The Bucklin Brook Watershed unfortunately has no sounds coming from it.
The wetland behind Stop and Shop on Cottage Street has been dropped from the survey, but I would like to get there to see if any life is in the water at some point.
Stay safe and healthy.
