GASPEE BUSINESS NETWORK

CONTACT YOUR LAWMAKER

The Gaspee Business Network (GBN), the incorruptible voice of Rhode Island’s small business community, today launched a “contact your lawmaker” campaign, urging state officials to do their part to aid in the state’s eventual economic recovery from the Coronavirus crisis.

GBN encourages businesses and citizens to comply with the social-distancing restrictions on commerce in our state, as ordered by the Governor, during the “Slow The Spread” period recommended by the President.

However, during this period and until our state’s economy is fully recovered, GBN recommends that our state’s legislative body should not just helplessly sit by and rely solely on federal rescue aid. GBN suggests that, when appropriate, every employer and worker possible must find a way to get back to work to support our state’s recovery.

Recognizing that business owners need to plan for the future, state lawmakers should take proactive actions – in the near term – to provide relief for the economic suffering of businesses and families when the economy starts its recovery – in the mid term. In addition to any federal aid that may be forth-coming, GBN calls on elected officials in Rhode Island to enact our state’s own temporary pro-growth counter-measures.

Citizens can join in this call to action by contacting their state Senators and Representatives via an easy to use, automated online tool at

GaspeeProject.com/ActionCenter .

GBN supports the emergency legislative agenda recently put forth by the RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity, designed to support employers and families during the recovery period, which includes:

Temporarily extending the deadlines for businesses to remit collected sales taxes to the state

Temporarily reducing Rhode Island’s minimum wage to the federal level of $7.25 per hour

Repeal the ban on flavored vaping products

Temporary suspension of the corporate minimum tax

Temporarily suspending Internet Sales Taxes

Temporarily suspend tolls on trucks

Eliminate sales and hotel taxes on people who offer short-term rentals

Legalize the purchase of short-term health insurance coverage

The sponsors of S2610 and H7767 to “pull” their bill that restrict access to ocular tele-medicine providers
